* I’m not sure if this one is real but still knowing AdU is there I’m proud!
Former president Joseph Estrada is guilty beyond reasonable doubt for the crime of plunder and is sentenced to a maximum jail sentence of up to 40 years, the Sandiganbayan Special Division ruled Wednesday.
At the same time, the anti-graft court found the former president’s son, Sen. Jose “Jinggoy” Estrada, and lawyer Edwardo Serapio innocent of plunder.
A perjury case against the former president was dismissed.
The Sandiganbayan imposed the lesser penalty of reclusion perpetua to the former president, which means imprisonment ranging from 20 years and one day to 40 years. It added that the period spent by Estrada while under detention will be credited to him in full “as long as he agrees voluntarily in writing to abide by the same disciplinary rules imposed upon convicted prisoners.”
The court ordered the forfeiture in favor of the government of P542,701,000 with interest and income earned inclusive of the amount of P200 million deposited in a foundation set up by Estrada for Muslim scholars.
The anti-graft court also ordered the forfeiture of P189 million inclusive of interest and income earned deposited in the Jose Velarde account as well as the Boracay mansion in New Manila, Quezon City.
The court said Estrada will remain detained at his resthouse in Tanay, Rizal “until further orders from this court.”
Estrada is charged with plunder, made up of four counts of corruption, involving diversion of funds amounting to about P4 billion ($85 million). He was also charged with perjury.
The charges include taking commissions in the purchase of shares by government insurance funds, payoffs from gambling lords, diverting tobacco taxes for personal use and maintaining a bank account under a false name. The perjury charge relates to misrepresentation on earned income.
Estrada, hero of the downtrodden during years as a matinee idol, has called the charges trumped up and says he was hounded out of office by a coalition of the elite, including senior army officers, corporate leaders and Catholic bishops.
Born Joseph Ejercito to a well-to-do Manila family he dropped out of school in his teens, was thrown out of home by his father and took the name Estrada from a telephone book.
He shot to movie stardom at 24 and in 1998 was elected president by a record margin.
His win was viewed as a turning point in national politics because Estrada was not a member of one of the traditional political dynasties.
But his term in office was marked by reports of policy decisions taken after late-night drinking bouts, millions of pesos won or lost in gambling sessions and innumerable tales of mistresses and their lavish lifestyles.
Estrada has never denied that he was fond of wine or women, but has said that was part of his movie star life, and that he gave it all up when he became president. With a report from Reuters
Yup media in all forms advocates all sectors, all walks of life and people with different principles in life pero ang tanong, Bobo ba sila o boboto sila sa Mayo katorse.

No doubt, life isn’t really a stroll in the park. There are times that you have to face trials of different kinds, and there are times where it seems that it’s much easier to give up, and give in to life’s adversities. However, it pays to take the hard way, to fight the hard fight, and push through when things seem bleak. In this week’s Maalaala Mo Kaya episode, we get a glimpse at an incident in Mang Lauro’s life, and how he and his family were able to stick with each other despite the seemingly herculean task that came their way.
Mang Lauro is a dedicated father, and wants nothing more than the best for his family. Unfortunately, Mang Lauro is also a man with issues, and was somewhat distant from his eldest son, Larry. Despite the possibility of tuberculosis looking over his head, Mang Lauro still continued working, in order to provide for his wife and kids. However, his condition got worse, leaving him with the option he didn’t want for his kids: that they will halt their studies and work instead to provide for their parents. Due to his sheer kindness, Mang Lauro faced a terrible accident one day, changing his and his family’s life forever. Overnight, his family’s situation turned around drastically when it seemed like things won’t get any worse.
Find out how Mang Lauro and his family overcame the huge obstacle that came their way, and see how a family’s love was able to shine through, amidst trials in pain. So, prepare a box of tissues, and brace yourself for an inspirational story that will last you a lifetime this Friday after Pinoy Big Brother Season 2.
It seems that you cannot detach the concept of beauty among women. After all, there’s a prevalent idea that women are supposed to embody beauty; and in our case, beauty is synonymous to fair skin, a slim figure and pointy noses: the typical image of a Western woman. The Correspondents gives us a sneak peek on how Filipina women conceive beauty: and the steps they undertake to achieve it.
In a poverty-stricken area, a group of teenage girls arm themselves with a variety of beauty regimen to combat their insecurities: thirteen year-old Tin-Tin wants to have straight hair, 16 year-old Julie and 14 year-old Michelle both want to get thinner while 15 year-old Fina wants to be fatter, 14 year-old Angelique wants to have better teeth, 15 year-old Sheeska wants to have fair skin, while 15-year old Gelyn dreams of a pointy nose. Collectively known as the “So Sisters”, they allot precious time and money to make themselves more alluring, carefully budgeting their allowances for hot oil treatments, whitening soaps and lotion, make-up and powder. Meanwhile, on another part of the city, Escell Angeles undergoes a nose job, Andrea Bautista falls under the prey of bulimia, and Crystal Henares undergoes liposuction. Varying from cosmetics to surgery, these girls go through various measures, with various reasons, in order to make themselves more socially acceptable, physically.
Sinag De-Leon Amado, a famous tri-athlete, on the other hand, thinks that beauty lies underneath the physical facade: real beauty lies in a person’s whole self, not just skin-deep. Growing up, she was more concerned in discovering her skills and passions, than worrying how other people think of herself. Hopefully like her, other teens will also see the real beauty in themselves and celebrate their differences. After all, beauty lies within each and everyone of us, all we have to do is acknowledge it.

Dionne and Zeke have been living double lives inside the PBB house; in addition to their life with their fellow housemates, they also tend to the ‘secret housemates’ as a graveyard task. They have done well so far… but is it well enough to outsmart Mickey?
This early morning, Mickey woke up for a quick bathroom break. He passed by the cubicles and noticed Zeke helping out one of the ‘others’ as they prepared to take a bath, and even saw Mikah behind the translucent glass panes in the shower. Mickey nonchalantly took a peek, but quietly went about his business. However, he checked Zeke’s bed right after…
Later, Mickey approached Zeke and asked him a simple question: “Is the task hard? The task with the others?” Zeke looked a little shook up with the question, but still kept his cool. The other housemates have also been suspecting that something weird is going on, because of the missing dining tools and some sounds they’ve been hearing through the night. Mickey, however, did not divulge his observations just yet; either he has assumed that the secret task has consequences that may put Zeke and Dionne in danger (which is true, as their failure grants them automatic nominations) or rather because he wishes to reveal it in his own time.
Will Zeke and Dionne be able to fend off the crafty Mickey, or will they fail the secret task and be among the nominees for eviction? Don’t forget to tune in at PBB Primetime later for the revelation; or better yet, stay tuned and anticipate when Mickey decides to spill the beans!
