Members of the La Raza Caviteno Org and Batangas Varsitarian at the OZ “tambayan” in the mid-1990s.
I was a not-very-active member of La Raza from 1993 up to God-knows-when, because by 1994, after joining the student paper, I just lost touch with them. By the mid-1990s, Fr. Danny Carolino of the former Office of Pastoral Affairs (OPA, now OSA), or whoever genius it was who was brilliantly quieting down fraternity activity and violence (things that made Adamson “famous” during the early part of that decade), was getting more and more successful — one by one, old frat “tambayans” were dismantled and “outlawed” until the university finally became a haven for world peace and shiny, happy people.
In March 1995, I interviewed one of my La Raza “brods” for a small write-up about how fraternities fared under the then new set of prescribed org behavior. Basically that was the last time I ever spoke with one of my old “brods”; the old tambayan would be completely gone in the years that followed, and of course, in those Friendster-free days, it wasn’t very easy to find missing folks.
I’m posting some of La Raza’s old tambayan photos here as some sort of looking back. If you have old tambayan photos of your own fraternity/organization, feel free to post them here.
To former members of La Raza and Batangas Varsitarian, if you have any information on some of the people shown in these photos and whatever happened to them, please share them in the comments.
To former members of the Adamson Chronicle, if you still have “press work” photos or those that show our beloved cramped office “in action,” feel free to post them here.
More La Raza tambayan photos from the 1990s after the jump.
